Comparison
Kinetic vs Workato
Workato is an integration and automation platform: recipes and AI agents that move data and actions between SaaS applications. Kinetic builds the portals, forms and workflows people use, with integration included, and can run customer-managed or air-gapped. Choose Workato for broad SaaS-to-SaaS integration. Choose Kinetic when people need an application to work in.

Kinetic and Workato, row by row
Every comparison on this site uses these rows, in this order. Where Workato matches Kinetic or goes further, the table says so. Numbers in brackets point to the sources at the end of the page.
| Criterion | Kinetic | Workato |
|---|---|---|
| Where the records live | In the systems you already run. ERP, HR, ITSM and case systems keep the records; Kinetic reads from them and writes to them. | Similar to Kinetic Workato connects apps and data where they are; records stay in the source systems. Source [1] |
| What you build on it | Portals, forms and apps; the workflows behind them; and the connections to existing systems. One platform covers all three. | Different approach Integration recipes, automations and AI agents. Workato describes itself as a platform to “connect apps and data, and orchestrate workflows and agents.” Source [1] |
| How AI helps you build | An AI assistant creates and edits forms, portals and workflows through Kinetic's MCP server, which is generally available. | Not covered in the sources we reviewed for this page. |
| How a running process behaves | The workflow runs the same way every time. AI is a step inside it (classify, extract, recommend, summarize), not the thing deciding the route. | Similar to Kinetic Workato markets “deterministic orchestration across agents, MCPs, data, apps, APIs.” Source [1] |
| AI model choice | Anthropic Claude, Amazon Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, self-hosted or open models, or any model that supports MCP. Kinetic ships no model of its own. | Similar to Kinetic “Intelligent routing across any model.” Source [1] |
| AI agents in the process | Agents can create records and start workflows through MCP and the APIs, within the user's permissions. Native agent work exchange is in development. | Similar to Kinetic Workato Genies, launched in August 2025, are AI agents built on the Workato platform. Source [4] |
| Where it can run | Kinetic-hosted cloud, a customer-managed install, or an air-gapped network. | Different approach Workato's cloud. An on-prem agent installed in your network gives Workato cloud access to systems behind the firewall, using outbound connections only. Source [5] |
| Government deployment and sign-in | Deployed in DoD IL5 environments, for example at Army INSCOM. CAC/PIV sign-in, SSO through SAML and OIDC, and 20+ years serving defense and intelligence. | Workato's site did not list a FedRAMP authorization when we checked in October 2026. Confirm current status on the FedRAMP Marketplace. Source [1] |
| Licensing model | No per-user fees. Consumption-based, with a free Community Edition. | Partly similar No public price list. Third parties describe editions plus recipe and task volume. Like Kinetic, it is usage-based. Source [6] |
| Connecting to other systems | Connectors, APIs and MCP. If a system has an OpenAPI spec, Kinetic can connect to it. | Workato goes further Connector breadth across SaaS applications is Workato's core strength. Workato reports eight Leader placements in Gartner's iPaaS Magic Quadrant, most recently in 2026. Source [2] Source [3] |
What Workato does well
- Integration breadth. Connecting SaaS applications to each other is what Workato was built for, and its connector library reflects that. Source [2]
- Analyst standing. Workato reports being named a Leader in Gartner's 2026 Magic Quadrant for Integration Platform as a Service, its eighth time. Source [2] Source [3]
- Agents and models. Genies, Workato's AI agents, launched in August 2025, and Workato routes work across any model. Source [4] Source [1]
- Reaching private systems from the cloud. The on-prem agent connects to databases and applications behind a firewall without opening inbound ports. Source [5]
Where Kinetic is different
Workato moves data. Kinetic also gives people somewhere to work.
A Workato recipe fires when something changes in one system and acts in another. That covers a lot of IT’s integration backlog, and Workato is very good at it.
Many processes start with a person, though. A manager requests access for a contractor. A resident applies for a permit. Someone has to fill in a form, someone else approves it, and the requester wants to know where it stands. Kinetic builds that portal and form, runs the approval workflow, and makes the calls to the systems behind it, all in one product. With an integration platform alone, the front end is a separate build.
Where it runs
Workato runs in Workato’s cloud. Its on-prem agent sits in your network and opens outbound connections so the cloud service can reach systems behind your firewall.[5] Kinetic can be installed and run by the customer, or on an air-gapped network where no outbound connection exists. For classified and disconnected environments, that difference decides the question.
On AI, the words overlap
Workato markets “deterministic orchestration” and routing “across any model.”[1] Kinetic runs AI as a step inside a workflow and lets you use the model you choose, including one you host. Treat those as shared ground. The differences are the portal and the deployment.
Which to choose, and when to run both
Choose Workato when
- The job is moving data and actions between SaaS applications, with no one filling in a form.
- IT owns many integrations and wants one place to build, monitor and govern them.
- A vendor-hosted cloud is acceptable for your data.
Choose Kinetic when
- People need a portal or a form to start the work and a page to follow it.
- The platform itself must run customer-managed or on an air-gapped network.
- Government users sign in with CAC/PIV, or the work runs in DoD IL5 environments.
- You want integration, workflow and the user experience in one product rather than three.
Run both when
- Workato already syncs your SaaS estate, and Kinetic provides the portal and the human approvals on top.

Integrating vSphere and Active Directory was only part of the job. NITC also needed a catalog people could order servers from. It built both on Kinetic, and provisioning went from three weeks to 30 minutes.

-
Is Kinetic an alternative to Workato?
Only partly. If you need a portal, forms and human approvals with the integrations behind them, Kinetic covers all of it. If you need hundreds of SaaS-to-SaaS integrations with no user interface, Workato is the more focused tool.
-
Can Kinetic run on premises?
Yes. Kinetic can be Kinetic-hosted, installed and run by the customer, or deployed on an air-gapped network. Workato's on-prem agent connects Workato's cloud to systems behind your firewall, which is a different arrangement.
-
Does Workato have FedRAMP?
We didn't find a FedRAMP authorization on Workato's site in October 2026. Check the FedRAMP Marketplace for the current position. Kinetic is authorized differently: customers install it in their own environment and issue the ATO, and it runs with ATOs in DoD IL4 and IL5 environments today, with CAC/PIV sign-in.
-
How do the pricing models compare?
Both are usage-based. Workato doesn't publish a price list; third parties describe pricing by edition plus recipe and task volume. Kinetic is also usage-based, without per-user fees, and we don't publish a price list either.
-
How many connectors does Kinetic have?
We don't publish a count. Kinetic connects through connectors, APIs and MCP, and if a system has an OpenAPI spec, Kinetic can connect to it. The integrations page shows the systems customers connect most often.
