Hello, my name is Annie Holmes and I’m here to talk to you about forms. Within the kinetic platform forms are used to capture data from end users and create tables of data that can be leveraged throughout the system.

There are three ways to create forms by cloning an existing form by importing a form from another kinetic environment, or by creating a form from scratch using the kinetic Form Builder. By utilizing these methods, builders can rapidly create interfaces that capture, validate and store data.

Let’s dive into the methods for creating forms. Cloning is probably the most common method for creating new forms and kinetic. Most organizations create a template that is cloned in order to save time by duplicating common elements or functionality. to clone a form, select the clone option from within the list of forms or click the clone button from inside the forms definitions and settings page.

Then, enter a new form name and provide a unique slug. The Slug is automatically generated, but you can change it as needed. Once complete, the new forms definitions and settings page should open up and you can begin to customize the properties of your new form.

It importing a form from another kinetic environment or cap. It’s actually quite simple. Because each form has the functionality to be exported and then imported in another location. Our forms are exported and imported using the JSON file format. You can copy the JSON directly from the modal or download the JSON file.

From here you can import it into the environment by dragging the JSON file into the Import window or copy and pasting the JSON files contents directly. Building a form from scratch can be done by selecting the New Form button when viewing the list of forms from the cap level, you will need to fill out some of the new forms fields before you can finalize it.

To configure your new form, you will need to fill out several fields, you will need to name your new form, you will need to provide a slug for your new form. And this is the unique identifier for your new form. It also is used as the URL when displaying the form and it will be created automatically from the name but can be manually changed. The description is optional. But as you might have guessed, it can be an important tool for letting others who might be working in the cap to better understand the purpose of the form you’re creating.

The status of your new form will default to new, but it does have other options for more advanced interactions. You can then set the optional type field to define a category which acts as a sort of keyword or search parameter for display options in the portal. Once your new form has been created, you can then make changes to the form by selecting it and opening the configuration page.

There’s a lot you can do here, which we won’t dive into today. But let’s get the basic understanding of the possibilities that can be achieved under the hood of your newly created form. Under the general tab, you can make changes to the basic settings that you defined when you first created the form.

The only new thing we see here is the submission label, which you can use to customize how you identify the individual request in the UI. Under the Categories tab, you can add categories to your form that were defined at the cap level. This isn’t the place to create new categories, but rather the place where we assign them. Categories are a quick and simple way to categorize your forms into neat organized units. Under the Attributes tab, you can apply attributes to your form.

As with categories, this isn’t the place to create new Attributes. What you can use attributes for is only limited by your imagination. And this is where the true power of forms and their attributes come into play.

Under the Security tab is where the security definitions are applied to the form. These are as with attributes and categories to find the cap level and then applied here. This is generally used if a forum within the cap has different security rules than the caps default security definitions. Here you can define what type of users can create, modify, view and submit your form.

Under the indexes tab, you’ll find subcategories. The Definitions tab is used to display the indexes being used by the form. Indexes are used by the kinetic platform search engine, and are a great way to optimize the search process for your form. The cap Definitions tab displays the indexes for the cap that can be applied to your form. The maintenance tab shows the status of indexing jobs for the form.

When new indexes are created or applied to your form. An indexing job will need to be performed and can be executed from this page. Moving on under the Submissions tab is a listing of all the submissions that have been generated using this form, with the most recent being displayed first. Details of the submission can be accessed by clicking on the submission.

And finally, under the Workflow tab is the display showing the work workflow for the form a status of undefined would indicate that no workflow exists for a corresponding event in the row. workflow can be added, edited or deleted using the icon at the right of each row. And that is an overview of forms and how they are created and used within the kinetic platform.
